Unlike the older Retina models 2015 and older. Apple has changed things quite a lot in the newer USB-C systems. SMC will drop the CPU’s clocking quite low once you take the battery out to the point it won’t be very practical. So I wouldn’t do that. Ranging from $140 to $200 depending on the model, it offers a much more affordable solution than purchasing new battery from Apple.
