This is a problem with many dpf vehicles, what has happened is that you have incomplete dpf regeneration. In other words, the dpf cycle has started, but due to the journey ending the dpf cycle did not complete. You need to carry out a 30 minute trip at 100kph/60 mph at least once per month to prevent this happening.
If this happens, the best thing that you can do is immediately take the car out on a dual carriageway or motorway for 15 minutes of continuous driving to give the DPF an opportunity to regenerate.
Mini ESP/ASR (Electronic Stabilization Program/Anti-Slip Regulation) warning light. This warning light indicates a problem with traction control. If it’s flashing it means the ESP system is intervening – for example, if you’re driving on a slippery road. If the light stays on it means the ESP system is deactivated.
Regularly drive your vehicle at higher (but legal!) speeds on a motorway for at least 20 minutes. This allows the engine to reach the temperature required for DPF regenerationRegularly service your vehicle, ensuring oil and filters are changed as per the manufacturer’s guidelinesNever ignore the DPF light.
1) Take the car on a road where you can drive at 50mph for atleast 5 to 7 mins. Drive continuously for 5 to 7 mins at the sppeed pf 50mph in 4th gear at or above 2000 rpm. My audi clears in 4 mins (Continuous means ,do not apply brakes or reduce speed or let the rpm get lower than 2000 rpm for 5 mins) Achievable in motorways or dual carriage way.
“Most DPF-equipped vehicles need a good drive on the highway every week or so, at over 80km/h, at over 2500rpm for a minimum of 20 minutes so the DPF can enter its ‘passive regeneration’ cycle. Basically, it needs to heat up the DPF to burn off all the soot.
